Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)

Blepharoplasty - more commonly called eyelid surgery or “lid lift” is designed to correct the appearance of droopy upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. Typically, due to aging, excess skin and fatty tissue can cause the eyes to droop, making people look perpetually tired or sad, or older than they actually are.

At Pinehurst Surgical Plastic Surgery Center, Dr. Jeff Kilpatrick performs eyelid surgery, providing patients with a solution to the problem of aging, droopy eyelids. Performed on an outpatient basis, the procedure entails making small incisions in the natural folds of the upper eyelids or just below the lashes on the lower lids. Careful placement of the incisions minimizes the appearance of scars. Excess skin, fatty tissue, and muscle may be removed to produce the desired aesthetic result. Tiny sutures are used to close the incision and are removed about one week later.

The procedure is usually performed in an office with local anesthesia in as little as 45 minutes. Eyelid surgery is a cosmetic procedure, but can also improve eyesight by lifting droopy eyelids out of the patient’s field of vision.

Depending on your needs, a brow lift, eyelid surgery, or a combination of the two can make you appear more youthful and vibrant. The procedure can also be combined with a facelift or BOTOX® treatments to raise the eyebrows or reduce the appearance of wrinkles, crow’s feet or dark circles under the eyes.

Many people will undergo Eyelid Surgery as a way to freshen their appearance while they delay having a Full Facelift.
